the anagram life

I am wondering what kind of warped sense of humor the person can have that puts an anagram on the zone with over 8500 words in it? Can anybody that even gets half of those words have a life away from their computer? The sheer amount of time required to enter that number of words is prohibitive to people that have a life that entales cooking, eating, reading, cleaning, working, getting together with friends, and sleeping. I wouldn't want fellow zoners to get the wrong idea. I have become a kind of anagram junky. I find working on them fun and actually relaxing. I made a suggestion to the admins that another anagram game be developed with no more than 500 words in it. I sustained an injury on my job, so I have been home with time to spend on the anagrams. I will be looking for another job in a few weeks, and I would love to be able to work on an anagram that I actually have a ghost of a chance to get more than half of the words in the time I will have available. Does anybody else find 8500 or 5400 or even 3000 words ridiculous?

Ya, there's so many that even the computer doesn't have the complete list.

I think it is something that we need to think about, though it should be pointed out that just because you yourself might think that say, three or five thousand words is a ridiculous amount, others might not feel the same. We're in a position at the moment where you can only please one of two sets of people at a time. Those who enjoy playing the enormous anagrams, or those who much prefer playing the games with fewer words.

possibly as a compromise we could have two standard games running per day, one with a small number of words to guess, say a maximum of 500, and then a game with a much larger number of words to get.

It's a thought anyway.

Dan.

We could do that, or perhaps a better effort could be made to offer a smaller word on one game, and a larger word on the other and then alternate which days each anagram game gets each type of word. That way, although you can't be happy everyday, at least for the most part, people can have it either way within a couple of days.

I hate anything with more than about 200 words tops, and for the regular game at least I don't see it being worth you doing anything, there will always be a large group who cheat, and so why should you make an effort to do anything with it? The only reason the premium only game is any better is that fewere people do it, and so there are times when few and maybe even no people cheat so everyone else has a chance to achieve something, in getting on the leaderboard.

yeah, or even better, you could have 2 levels like in blingo. people can set the difficulty level they want, and there for, just got the easy or the hard anagrams. yeah, you would have to do 2 words a day, but still, it would please both sets of people. the anagram addicts can have the hard ones, and the users who really go for the small words, can have the easy level

I agree about the large words during the week, why not put a really large anagram and have it go for the entire weekend.
Also those that cheat, Names appear at the top everyday should be kicked off but then may be that's the only way they can play!!
I admit to using the dictionary for help with a word or two, but the challenge should be to challenge your mind not to use your anagram program to stop others from winning.
Those who finish in 3 through 10 should be angry that they don't have a chance to win fairly!.
Stop cheating or leave!!!

Seems like many people agree with me. Just one thing to clear up; The smaller words can be as difficult as the big phrases. You just don't have to enter as many words. If I had my druthers, I would like to see one short and one long for both premium and anagram extreme. That way the people using anagram generators can prove how much time they have to enter thousands of words. Of course, the bigger question is; What do people that use an anagram generator get out of letting the computer do the thinking for them? So, who can make some changes, since I am not the only person that feels that changes need to occur?

Again, I need to say that I find anagrams to be a good divergence from daily stresses. I enjoy competition also. Oh, and I have learned the meanings of some words, how to spell others, and just how many weird words we have in our language. I believe that our minds are like a muscle. If you don't use it, you loose it.

Whoa, I didn't know that there were such things as anagram generators.

I personally feel that the feature to go back and see peoples anagrams needs to go. This is cheatign and you can bet your bottom dollar that people go and do this all the time.

It gets discouraging when you log in to play right after the game starts and there are two or three people (always teh same ones) that have over half the words in like 5 minutes. I realize some people think it's fun to cheat, but that doesn't really help those of us with real brain cells.

I agree about the cheating thing. There's no point in it, whatsoever. The point of the game is to challenge our minds, and that's one thing that I really enjoy about this game. There have been several topics brought up on the boards about cheating, but it's not something that we'll ever be able to get rid of. People are going to do it, no matter what. Personally, anagrams is one of my favorite games. I enjoy playing word games. As far as the length of the word/phrases go, I think it's a pretty good idea to alternate between the two. I also like the idea of having a choice of whether you want to play the smaller or larger of the two.

It is gratifying that so many zoners have strong feelings about cheating. I have heard that the two or three people that obviously cheat, never read the board postings. So, who can make changes in length. Something else; It doesn't seem random when the extra points are assigned after each game. I think that someone is just chosen from the top five. I wonder if there is a program that picks from all of the people that have half of the words?

Do we even get the points? I mean, I havent' noticed lately, but before, if I happened to win a day's anagram, I'd look at my points, but I never gained anything. Did they ever fix that?

I don't play for the points or the placing, I play for fun. And I love when there's a large number of anagrams. But it seems muy bad luck, that when I have a day off from work, those are the days when there's only like a hundred words. lol
